Photo by @daisygilardini | A trip to Antarctica to photograph emperor penguins is the trip of a lifetime! In early October the chicks are still on the pack ice with their parents. Weather conditions can be challenging.
When photographing wildlife, I try to “work my subject,” if possible. This means shooting with different lenses while trying every possible angle. I prefer to lie on the ground to be at eye level with my subject, but sometimes elevated views work just as well.
On this occasion, I found that the shape of the chick's head and the lines created by its black-and-white feathers worked well from an elevated point of view. I'm very slow and deliberate in my movements around wildlife to avoid scaring them.
