What a year. Similar to 2015 I think 2019 will be a year that sticks out for me (in not such an arbitrary way) from the other years. So what happened? I turned 30. I bought a house. I suffered and recovered from a really bad finger pulley tear. I left a relationship and started a new one. I moved from France to Wales. I climbed the hardest thing I’ve ever climbed. I started corporate coaching and grew my climbing coaching. I did my first speaking tour. I traveled to some interesting places including Mongolia, Oman and South Korea with people I’m lucky enough to call my friends. And that’s just the stuff I feel comfortable sharing on Instagram. Of course life just can’t be bundled into a list of events, accomplishments or challenges but we use these things to create an image we can share with others and to be remembered by our future selves. Under the polished image of what we’re happy to share lurk all the peaks and troughs of human well-being that aren’t really shareable, especially not on social media. But paradoxically it’s all the under the surface stuff that we have in common whether you achieved lots of life goals this year or you simply stayed afloat.
