Master Baik came to Tonga as a Korean missionary over 30 years ago, dedicating his life to the service of our little island. Here we are at Tonga High school the school I went to when I was a child. We would borrow their school hall, setting up mats every day for all the Taekwondo kids. For years before this we had a small three by five metre room at the back corner of a stadium with no windows and a tiny door. It was impossible to get all the members inside to train. It has been my dream and one of my big goals for this year to start my foundation that will build free exercise facilities for the children of Tonga and then the Pacific. To start life with an exercise and health focus in order to combat rising social and health related problems in our islands. Master Baik and Master Paul have also dreamt of the day that we can have a place to call home for the Taekwondo kids of Tonga. A respite from any issues they may be having at home. A safe place. One of the first pieces of work that our foundation once setup will do, will be to build cyclone proof and eco friendly training facilities for both the Taekwondo and Kayak members followed by a general purpose strength and conditioning facility for all. It will be completely free to all kids. This is very important to me. That a child’s financial situation doesn’t limit their access to exercise and health.
