The Foundling Hospital was Britain’s first home for abandoned children, the UK’s first children’s charity (the work continues as CORAM) and it’s first public art gallery. From 1741 when the first babies were admitted, to 1954 when the last pupil was placed in foster care, the Foundling Hospital cared for and educated around 25,000 children.. The museum continues to honour this legacy and to celebrate the ways in which artists of all disciplines have helped improve children’s lives for over 250 years, protecting and inspiring generations.
