We got to talking and he told me that he had pulled Kobe over on two separate occasions for driving alone in the Carpool lane. We laughed and wondered out loud how many time he must have done that for him to catch him twice. Not long after that I heard Kobe got smart and was taking a helicopter to games and meetings in LA. Made sense to me. It would’ve been impossible to manage all that he had happening and drive to LA from Orange County and maintain any semblance of a life. Strange now that all that time saved ultimately didn’t amount to more time. I can’t stop thinking about his wife losing a husband and daughter while raising three others. It’s unfathomable, especially with so many eyes on it. I feel horrible for the other less familiar families who lost daughters and parents and partners and are equally devastated and grieving. I only met Kobe briefly a couple of times but I had huge admiration for this guy and have found it tough to find the words to express it the past couple days. Thank you for following your dreams big and small and letting your unadulterated passion for the game reach so many of us in our own little ways.
