I would love to see that be the case when it comes to the many ways in which women and girls still experience discrimination - something that has no place in this modern age. January’s #LOVEOURGIRLS features an organization aptly called She’s the First (@shesthefirst) that works ardently and passionately towards the future I long to see. They believe that when a girl is educated, respected, and heard, she is unstoppable, and I couldn’t agree more. While many times the girls experiencing the worst kind of oppression, be it child marriage or denial of an education, are too far away from us to envision, She's the First fosters global connections; making it so that your involvement brings a girl’s life across the world close to your own, something I’m convinced draws us to do more. Let’s start this decade with a renewed determination to bring about real change for girls and women across the world. Girls like Deepa from Nepal; author of the featured poem and STF Scholar who battles lupus and dreams of being a nephrologist to help others like herself though living in a society where educating a woman is largely considered a waste of money.
