Surrounding Charfasson is the Tetulia River, a tributary of the Ganges that feeds directly into the Bay of Bengal. Plastic fishing nets have become commonplace in Bangladesh and many other parts of the world. The netting can be particularly damaging for smaller and infant fish, and once disposed of, the nets are likely to flow into the Bay of Bengal, trapping marine life and harming habitat.
