1. Metro in Moscow could've appeared in the 19th century under the tsar in 1890. Construction was prevented by religious believes, stating that: “a man created by the image and likeness of God can humiliate himself by going to the underworld”. 2. Subway experienced multiple floods.
3. In the eastern lobby of Kotelniki st. there’s a place where they collect all lost items. It is open daily from 8am to 8pm. Items are stored for six months.

4. Moscow metro was used as a movie set many times.
5. You won’t find any trashcans in the subway.They were later removed, in the beginning of 90’s in the measurement of protection against terrorism.
6. What Moscow’s subway smells like?
Do you like this special metro smell? It smells like a viscous dark substance called creosote, which is made from petroleum products. It prevents wooden sleepers from rotting.

7. In 1940 there was a secret lab built in the subway, at the Dynamo station, a physical laboratory worked at night. Cosmic radiation, which interfered with laboratories on earth, did not go through the 40-meter depth of the station. Thanks to the experiments carried out by physicists Flerov and Petrzhak, spontaneous fission of uranium nuclei was discovered.
8. In the Moscow subway you can find prehistoric animals forever embedded in marble. Ammonites and nautiluses, sea urchins and gastropods - all can be found at any time on thirty stations.
9. There was a bunker on the "Taganskaya" station.
An underground bunker, aka “Object GO-42”, was built in 1956 in case of a nuclear strike, and it acted as a reserve command post for long-range aviation until 1995. After it was declassified and turned into a museum.
10. Do not forget to rub the “dog's nose”. At the “Ploshchad Revolyutsii” station there is a sign: rub the nose of the dog bronze statue, for the good luck!
