I also deeply felt like the goals + value systems I had been socially conditioned to strive for didn’t align with me anymore. for the past year or so I have to some extent been self-isolating after feeling an immense need to turn inward, be alone, be still and think. I am so grateful for having had the privilege of that experience now because it forced me to try to start to reflect + reset. now that we are finally officially on lockdown here in the UK I wanted to share this doc I’ve been working on to collate some of the resources that make me feel like we can collectively work towards a better future. even though this is a terrifying moment for all of us facing so much uncertainty (because don’t get me wrong I’m scared!), it is also a compelling time where those of us privileged enough to be able to stay in and isolate can try to imagine a more viable future that doesn’t depend on the exploitation of our fellow human beings and our beloved planet. we need to imagine a world where we need less because we are more connected to each other, and through that we have more meaning, where we feel like our true selves and thus have less of a need to dominate to accumulate. so here is a loose syllabus for self-study during this time if you’re curious to imagine an alternative vision. #graceleeboggs who has been a massive source of inspiration to me often spoke about creating space for our ‘souls to grow’ and never have her words felt more apt. thank you so much to brian (@_trustfall ) + my sister aditi jaganathan who also contributed to this piece full of things to read, watch, listen to feed our minds.
