I say “pretty sure” because while I couldn’t get tested: 1. I had symptoms. In my case a debilitating malaise and fatigue. It was as if I had been roofied. Like I was going to pass out and not wake up. Luckily thought, I had no fever, cough or compromised breathing. 2. I had been traveling significantly before I was finally able to isolate myself in my apartment for the past 3 weeks (and no I wasn’t feeling sick until about a week into isolation). 3. Many friends and colleagues I have interacted with are also suffering from the spectrum of symptoms connected with COVID-19. One of those people, a dear friend, was lucky enough to get tested (positive). I’m not posting all this to garner sympathy. I’m trying to sound the alarm. My symptoms are considered mild yet they still kicked the shit out of me. There are people I know right now who’s symptoms are severe enough that they would be rushed to the hospital under normal circumstances. But these circumstances are not normal. The hospitals and urgent cares here in New York are simply overrun. The medical staff and first responders risking their lives with out adequate protection and equipment. Do you not hear the sirens 24/7 in NYC? The hospitals simply can not take you unless you are close to dying. This affects us all. Even those who feel fine (1 in four people are asymptotic but still contagious). And yet people are still congregating. People are still not social distancing. People are still asking me why I didn’t just go to the hospital if I was so sick. Look, here’s the strategy... Just assume that you have it. Especially if you’re in NYC. You have it. And now that you know you have it, try not to give it to someone else. It’s that simple. We have to take this seriously. All of us. All seven billion of us. Like right now. Please be safe. We’re in this together. ps That’s me and my pet giraffe Kiko. We’re waiting for the time Geoffrey- another giraffe currently isolated across the street- can come home. It’s a long story. #staythefuckhome」4月3日 0時45分 - jonnylmiller
