On the anniversary of our dear Count Basie’s passing, I can’t help but think back to when Dionne Warwick @therealdionnew & I hosted “To Basie With Love: A Tribute to Count Basie” at Radio City Music Hall in 1982…There’s too much to be said about this man who was like a father to me since I was 15. From playing together with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis; to teaching me all about dealing with the hills & the valleys (the highs & lows of life); & most importantly, teaching me the importance of being fair, he was always there for me…In tempo, on time, & IN THE POCKET!! Missin’ U always & for eternity....
