This is Piotr a.k.a. @i_make_books taking over this week. • In the next few days I will try to focus on what makes special editions so “special” sharing with you some of my work and stories. Later this week I will also try to share some advice to those who are looking to self publish the first book or just to make a beautiful dummy and express my predictions for the future of the industry so stay tuned! • Firstly, project which started it all and opened my doors to photo books world. I was approached by London based photographer/publisher @maxwelljakeanderson a.k.a. @bemojake to bind 250 copies of a zine “Yume so Miru” by Motohiko Hasui @motohiko_hasui As you all know zines are not the most elaborate and daring book structures ever made and perspective of hand-sewing 250 of them is not the most attractive. After the time I spent exposed to the zine I got strongly inspired by Hasui’s beautiful, dreamy aesthetics. In a proper guerrilla style I saved one copy of the book and bound it in a debossed hard case, made a box for it (a style I’ve never tried before) and gave it to Maxwell with remaining 249 copies of the zine. Luckily he loved it and decided to make it up to edition of 10 adding a print to each of them. In months after I started receiving emails from people who’ve seen Maxwell in Paris, London, New York, LA and other book fairs enquiring about those boxes.
