On this wall there is a brilliant, outstanding line, opened in 1976 by Ragni di Lecco Casimiro Ferrari and Vittorio Meles. I believe that, still nowadays, this is the most beautiful and hardest route on Fitz Roy, despite the many others which have been opened afterwards. My project had three goals: cleaning the route from all the metal ladders and old ropes used 40 years ago and which are still in place, climbing the route in pure alpine style and free climbing as much as we could (ideally the whole route). I spent two full seasons trying to reach these goals and eventually achieving only the first objective and in January 2016 my friend David Bacci, at his first experience in Patagonia, told me "Hey, don't you want to give it another try with me? I feel like this is the right year for this route!" The first part of the route went incredibly smooth, I was free climbing fast and efficient through the steep and hard terrain. By the evening, we reached a small ledge where we could barely sit and unexpectedly it started to snow. After a couple of hours our sleeping bags were soaking wet and we started to be cold. We spent a sleepless night but we never really considered the option of bailing. The following morning the sky cleared up, a strong wind and the sun hit the face very early and allowed us to dry our gear before continuing upwards. The upper part of the route offered one of the most amazing climbs I've ever done in my life, there was a perfect splitter crack 100 meters long cutting straight in a featureless shield. We had a second bivy, before the climbing got even harder on the final part of the route, where we had to aid some sections. Eventually on the evening of the third day we reached the summit just before the sunset. It was a special feeling to complete such a big dream, where I invested countless energy and time, with the great friend. We were blessed to enjoy a last beautiful bivy with perfect weather on the summit of Fitz Roy, before beginning very long descent" Patagonia Stories episode 6 by @matteodellabordella」5月16日 5時22分 - vibram
