GINZA SIXの5F、黒漆喰の外壁がVIP会員を出迎えるプレミアムラウンジ「LOUNGE SIX」。インテリアデザインは現代美術家の杉本博司さんと建築家の榊田倫之さんによる「新素材研究所」が手掛けています。
「『古様な素材を提案することが、今一番新しい』という確信を持って、アイロニカルに新素材研究と言っておきながら、実は古様な素材を研究し提案することを設計理念としています。ただ一方で、単純に数寄屋的や社寺的ということではなく、やはり現代の気分というのがあるので、素材や工法は古来であるけれど、納め方は現代的なディテールで構成していきます」

At the front of our “LOUNGE SIX” space is a wall with black plaster finish. The interiors were designed by the New Material Research Laboratory—a partnership between artist Hiroshi Sugimoto and architect Tomoyuki Sakakida. “Our belief is that ‘The materials of the past provide a breath of fresh air today.’ So ‘New Material’ is used ironically, as our approach is to find novel uses for old, ancient materials. But that doesn’t mean our designs are based on teahouse architecture or shrines and temples.
