The kind lady and her horse lay exhausted in dust, and the death toll keeps rising here to a new painful plateau... more than all those killed from this country in every war since the one in Korea, in less than three months. Tomorrow unemployment numbers will tell us just how messy we‘ve become, and I can’t imagine how long it will take to clean up the mess within this old place. Once the dust was swept from the floor, the plastic removed, on the bed beside three windows where I still sleep, was the shade for a lamp I’ve had since living in China, misplaced in this messiness of a room.
