A tie clip should never choke or flatten a tie. The best way to get some movement and dimension to your neckwear (while keeping it out of your soup) is to lift up your chin and place the clip just below your sternum. Don’t fuss about getting it level. Like the careless drop of a pocket square, a tie clip is supposed to be an afterthought, so let it be one.
