There is a lot of pain right now and justified anger. This is a kind of reckoning and mirror of what’s been happening for centuries to my fellow brothers and sisters. The majority of which no one knows about. No witnesses, no videos, no news crews covering the deaths and abuse. No outcry. I’ve been wanting to say something about this but honestly couldn’t find the words to appropriately convey my feelings. Which led me to a discussion with a friend just now about how people process their grief and sadness and rage in different ways. I think it’s so powerful and important that everyone is coming together right now, speaking out, mobilizing and using their voices to bring this to national attention in the hopes of shifting a completely broken and ineffective system; shining a light on the very real racism that’s still so rampant and prevalent in this country. I know, I’ve had many “checks” by police and others. But also.. just because people don’t post, doesn’t mean they don’t care or are protecting their ‘brand’. Maybe they’re too devastated to post or they have a loved one that died in a similar way and the wound is too raw. Everyone grieves and processes differently; or are supporting the cause in a private way.
