I’ve stood in comfort as I’ve seen injustices play out on TV and social media. I would comfort myself by pointing out that George Floyd, and the many other like him, didn’t deserve what happened to them. I would tell myself that by pointing this out to myself and others, it made me a “good person”, and that there was no way someone could say I’m racist. This thinking has allowed me to never be uncomfortable when I should be! I now understand it’s not enough to be “not racist”—we need to be anti-racist. We need to demand justice as if it we’re our own blood. That doesn’t mean rioting, but it does mean getting uncomfortable and not allowing things to go back to the old status quo. I see the black community hurting and stepping up time and time again to demand change, and hopefully this time people are uncomfortable enough by what they’ve seen to change. In all of this sadness I’ve seen some amazing things on SM the last couple days. Protestors hugging police, police marching with protestors. We need to demand that news outlets show people coming together for good rather than just always showing the bad. We as white people need to get out and listen IN PERSON to our friends and neighbors of color. We don’t want to keep going through this, and the only way is to change is by getting UNCOMFORTABLE with the situation of systemic racism.」6月2日 0時38分 - stevecook
