But I want to share a story of something thats positive as this is what’s important. I grew up in an Aboriginal community called Nhulunbuy. It was a rough mining town and there was racism towards the Aboriginal people. My mum developed education for Aboriginal kids and my Dad works as a plumber on housing in Aboriginal communities. This photo is from the local football team I played in called Gopu. I was 15. We won the grand final this day. I am the Scrawny White kid in the middle. There was racism on the footy field, in the pub and on the street. It showed me how fucked up people can be from an early age. But the resilience my mates showed was unbreakable. They never backed down. Not once. The abuse they received wasn’t related to sporting ability or personality. So I had to pick a side. So I did. I stood by them and we would fight together. Our bond as friends grew to something far greater. The one incomparable feeling is that of equality and standing up to oppression. No matter who is receiving it. I am a middle class white Dude. I don’t confess to understanding truly how unfair and horrific it is to be attacked for your skin color. This is not my message. I can only speak from my experience and how it has developed me as a person. I just want people to realize that if you truly want to ‘do something’, then stand next to someone that is getting wrongly treated and fight with them. Don’t waste your time trolling and hating on everyone for what they do or do not do. That won’t help solve the problem. 🖤」6月3日 19時51分 - justinoshea
