We can’t let that happen. We each have the opportunity to make this time, this movement really count. It might mean having uncomfortable conversations with those who oppose our views, it might mean, for those of us who come from privilege, having uncomfortable conversations within ourselves and continuing to do so. Holding ourselves to a much higher standard. It might mean changing where you spend your money. Regularly supporting black-owned businesses, and black artists. Changing how we spend our time. Educating ourselves, standing up for any racial injustices even if the masses haven’t yet. We have to vote, we have to encourage others to vote—we have to hold our elected officials accountable. We have to keep amplifying black voices locally, as well as globally. We have to hold our police accountable for their misconduct. I go through my day to day life without an intimidating police presence, and I still feel safe. People of colour want and deserve the same thing. The promise of America is equality, but this promise is long overdue for people of colour, for women, for the LGBTQ+ community. The time to change that is right now. We have to be persistent. We can’t let our activism be fleeting. We are the change. I want to encourage everyone to work to be on the right side of history, so that—for once, ‘equality’ isn’t just a concept, but an actuality. We’ll be late, but we can get there.」6月6日 10時16分 - georgiamayjagger
