Remembering not only was Stonewall a riot that lasted three days, but it was a riot where some protesters, fed up with systemic oppression, threw bottles and coins at the police, and resisted arrest to fight for their rights. Remembering that before the branded merchandise and the parades there was the protest. Remembering that the LGBTQ+ rights won from that moment in history starting on June 28,1969 were won on the strength of the Civil Rights movement, and before that from the power of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. Black leaders throughout our history, black LGBTQ+ leaders and Civil Rights leaders have consistently endeavored to make the PROMISE of what this country could be into a REALITY.
