🇫🇷 Nous célébrons aujourd’hui la #FêteDesMères avec cet autoportrait d’Elisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun !

🎨 Vigée Le Brun réalise cet autoportrait en compagnie de sa fille âgée de huit ans en 1789, sur le modèle d’un autre tableau également conservé au Louvre. L’artiste se représente, enlaçant Jeanne-Lucie dans un geste de protection et de tendresse, que le spectateur est invité, par le regard de l’enfant, à contempler.

✍️ Si la scène relève de la sphère privée et de l’intime, elle s’inscrit dans le contexte de valorisation de l’enfant propre au XVIIIème siècle avec notamment la parution en 1762 de L'Emile de Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Avec ce tableau, Vigée Le Brun souhaite également s'affirmer comme une artiste cultivée. Elle s'inspire de l’attitude des Vierges à l’Enfant du peintre Raphaël (1483-1520), un des grands maîtres de la Renaissance italienne.

🎨 Vigée Le Brun painted this self-portrait with her eight-year-old daughter in 1789, based on the model of another work also kept in the Louvre. The artist portrayed herself, embracing Jeanne-Lucie in a gesture of protection and tenderness, which the viewer is invited to contemplate through the child's eyes.

✍️ Although the scene is a matter of privacy and intimacy, it falls within the context of the 18th century's emphasis on the value of the child, particularly with the publication in 1762 of Emile by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

✨ With this painting, Vigée Le Brun also wanted to assert herself as a cultivated artist. She drew her inspiration from the attitude of the Madonna and Child paintings of the painter Raphael (1483-1520), one of the great masters of the Italian Renaissance.
