No country is feeling the heat — due to a continuing drought that is exacerbated by our warming planet —more than Cambodia, home to Southeast Asia’s largest lake, the Tonle Sap, which connects with the Mekong. The only hope is that nature will come to the rescue with an early start to this year’s rainy season which should begin this month. Each year, after the rains begin, the Tonle Sap expands many times in size and provides vital habitat for fish. In a normal year, at least a half million tons of fish are taken from it, translating into the world's largest for one body of water and providing the 16 million people of Cambodia with most of its protein. In the past 2 years, though, it’s estimated that fish catches have declined up to 90 percent creating concerns for a major food crisis and forcing many fishermen to abandon their livelihoods. Here are photographs of some of those being affected. #tonlesap #mekong #mekongriver #cambodia」6月9日 0時54分 - yamashitaphoto
