The VCS3 electronic music synthesiser also known as the Putney has been used by legendary artists include Brian Eno, Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode. This one was owned by the Australian composer and international pioneer of electronic music Don Banks [1923-1980]. It was purchased by @パワーハウスミュージアム from his studio in 1983. The VCS3 was a development from the VCS1 [known as the Don Banks Music Box]. Don commissioned this prototype from Peter Zinovieff, Tristram Carey and David Cockerell in 1968.
Don Banks had an ambitious vision for music in Australia that featured professionalism for Australian composers, a steer away from self-conscious nationalism and an absorption of world music which he hoped would lead to the emergence of an Australian sound
