That one phenomenal day in 2009. 🙌 To my knowledge, b4 this, The white house had never had such an event. spoken word??! nah, never. and no one I knew had ever been inside those walls. so when i got the invite, I was sure it was a mistake. I made at least 5 calls to confirm it was real & a few days later, hopped my ass on an acela train by myself w/ no idea what to expect, why i was chosen or who else would be there. i showed up w/ all my credentials & walked thru the East Wing into a room filled of diverse, excited & equally confused ppl. @bigboy was there! i was so happy to see him & we decided we would make ourselves at home... runnin around like we owned the place. i may or may not have cleaned out all the little napkins from the bathrooms thinking I’d never return. 🤭
I had NO clue that while The Obamas were in office, I‘d be invited back multiple times. They truly made the white house... the people’s house and every time I’d return, I was in awe of the diversity that walked those halls. That inspiration will stay w/ me forever.
