But, I never let that stop me! - I would get up early and practice, go to school and then go back to practice (and repeat). I remember in winter there was only one indoor tennis court and it did not have any heating. It would be -2 inside and I would turn up in a beanie and big jacket to practice. I didn’t know this at the time, but these days started building my resilience and fighting passion that would help me through many highs and lows both on and off the court in years to come. My background is not one of privilege but one of hard work. - My first big goal was to play my first ATP match and in 2013 my dream was realised. It was at the Bangkok Open and I drew non other than @felilopezoficial in the first round. As I was walking out onto the court I was feeling sick – terrified that I would not even get a game! My stomach settled when I held my serve and I saw a game next to my name on the scoreboard. - I lost that match 6-3 6-3 in just over an hour. I walked off the court disappointed that I didn’t win, but proud that I had played my first ATP match. My hard work had paid off, the sacrifices of my parents and sister were worth it.
