Just after the global pandemic hit New York, Jessica Wertz and her partner Rob Herschenfeld decided to take action. They assembled a PPE factory called @ShieldOurHeroesNYC in Brooklyn with some 40 friends and acquaintances—tattoo artists, motorcycle enthusiasts, bartenders, DJs, and more. After making and distributing over 500,000 face shields to hospitals around the country, they decided to pivot their efforts and focus on providing protective equipment to those protesting with the Black Lives Matter movement.
