What began in 2013 as a concept album has evolved into Die Jim Crow, the first non-profit record label for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated musicians. On Juneteeth, @BLShirelle, the organization's Deputy Director, will release her debut album, "Assata Troi," a collection of songs about love, spirituality, and her own experiences as a Black LGBTQ woman within the American criminal justice system. At the link in bio, when asked how she wants her music to make people feel, Shirelle says, "Honestly, I just want them to hear it." Photo: @davejonze45.
