Today we observe Juneteenth a day of celebration and exploration of African American history and heritage. June 19, 1865 marks the day when the Texan slaves found out they were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation two and a half years after it happened. The 200,000 Texan slaves were the very last to be informed. It became a tradition for African Americans to celebrate freedom on June 19th - the day was then named Juneteenth. Movado Group’s offices are closed to proudly recognize and honor this important moment in history.
