Friday is Juneteenth. The June 19 holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. But 155 years after the news of their emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, the nation is still struggling with the issues of systemic racism and injustice. Former President Obama wrote on Twitter: “Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory, or an acceptance of the way things are. It's a celebration of progress.”
