Celebrating #Juneteenth with a sweet potato 🍠 bundt cake topped with maple syrup frosting. So moist! Yep, I said moist. 😆 Although sweet potatoes seem to be more in fashion these days, they’ve been around in this country for hundreds of years! West Africa is a yam based culture. When forced migration due to the slave trade brought Africans to the South, they found that sweet potatoes were reminiscent to yams back at home. Eventually sweet potatoes ended up in desserts such as sweet potato pie and has become symbolic and a staple for many Black family traditions. This may not be pie, but the incorporation of sweet potatoes, nutmeg, ground ginger and cinnamon in a cake form is so comforting! 😋
