Photos from a 2013 party in which many fashion industry leaders (like the designers of @dolcegabbana and a @voguemagazine photographer) allegedly wore blackface and slave paraphernalia to fit the party’s “Disco Africa” theme. Details below. First video is a short clip from my recent livestream. Mainly included it so I don’t have to see blackface every time I open IG tbh, but it also highlights a very small bit of the vast racism that (along with some other problematic things) made me walk away from the fashion industry. The racism trickles down — from the designers who prefer white models, to the casting directors who agree to limit the number of minorities in a show or campaign, to the agencies who profit financially from having more white models on their board, to our society inundated with images depicting a limited beauty standard set by those same racist (size-ist, etc.) designers.
