This is me at my first Pride parade in Toronto in 1996. I wore a baseball hat, sunglasses and a “Wham” T-shirt. I never wore baseball hats. I still don’t a lot. I think I wore it because I was afraid of someone recognizing me. Still hiding. I remember being struck by how many people were there celebrating. I was immediately obsessed with drag queens. I had felt so alone and afraid for a long time that it was one of the first moments I realized that I would be ok. When I went back home I was so excited to tell my mom about what I had experienced. I told her that I somehow got “mixed up” in the parade and how cool it was. Not long after that I came out. Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈 #tbt
