Scenes from the Queer Liberation March for Black Lives and Against Police Brutality in New York City on June 28. The organizers are activists who held a protest march last year as an alternative to the main Pride parade, saying it had become too corporate, the Associated Press reports. The first #Pride parades took place in the U.S. in 1970, a year after the uprising at the Stonewall Inn that many consider to be the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ liberation movement. While large gatherings are still barred in the city due to the pandemic, mass demonstrations have occurred since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in late May. Two weeks ago, thousands of people wearing white gathered for Brooklyn Liberation, a Black Trans Lives Matter rally and silent march. Read more at the link in bio.
