This week’s edition of #HeroesofBrooklyn features Chanel Schroff and Timur Seckin, two Brooklyn residents who created COVID AID NYC, an online resource where New Yorkers can locate up-to-date information on food banks and COVID testing sites based on their zip codes. In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two discovered a lack of updated information on the location of available testing sites and food banks that serve those in need. As unemployment rates began to increase, Schroff and Seckin identified the need for one consolidated database to help fill that void, and in turn assist their community through the crisis, and created the website www.Covidaid.nyc. Their website has now grown to feature nearly 250 food banks across all five boroughs, including details on operating hours, contact information and service offerings for both food banks and COVID-19 testing locations. Schroff and Seckin are now working to expand their operation to include sites that offer free personal protective equipment, as well as locations of facilities where previously infected individuals can donate plasma. #BrooklynStrong #NBATogether
