I had the honor of sharing the stage with the most talented people in the world, and traveled with the most driven, brilliant cast and crew a performer could ask for. My heart is heavy. . I’ve found some photos from my time with Cirque Du Soleil. . 1. Cirque is flight. My act was Rings Trio. I wore a hot pink bikini and covered myself in gold glitter right before stepping on stage. This picture is a moment of pure freedom. A euphoria felt only under that big-top. 2. Cirque is youth. The first time my makeup was applied, at CDS headquarters in Montreal. Teenage Maika had no idea what journey she was embarking on. 3. Cirque is a childhood dream. Here I am overlooking the big top, wondering what the hell I was doing with my life (and being oh so grateful for it). 4. Cirque is vulnerability. It tears you apart and reveals your insecurities, your boundaries, your weaknesses. You experience conflict and challenge. You grow. Cirque is evolution. 5. Cirque is abs...er...troupes. It’s the people who (literally) pick you up every day. The ones you live with, eat with, train with. The ones that inspire you with strength and grace and great biceps. 6. Cirque is the stage. The show is the spectacle of everyone’s hard work. All of that discipline and dedication for a few seconds in the spotlight. It’s fleeting - It’s there and it’s gone - it is so beautiful. 7. Cirque is women. I wish every young girl could grow up surrounded by spicy, talented, and badass ladies like I did. To every role model and friend who I crossed paths with, thank you. 8. Cirque is flexibility. Literally, yes. But also Cirque teaches you that the future is unknown. It teaches you how to adapt and adjust - during a live performance - but also while it tosses you around the world to new cities and new cultures. 9. Cirque is home. I’d turn around and look at that big top under the night sky every time before I left. When I think of home, Cirque is it. 10.Cirque is family. . There’s so much more I want to say.
