Catch! Two-year-old Doreen squeals with delight as she throws a homemade ball with her mother. Suzan, 25, started to appreciate the importance of play after joining a parenting class, which UNICEF and LEGO Foundation support in Zambia.⠀

"Unlike before, I feel much greater intimacy with my child,” she explains. “I’m able to tell when she needs something and know if she is unwell even before asking. Doreen is now a very active child and able to mingle freely with her peers without any difficulties of trying to fit in. To apply the lessons I’ve learned in the parenting classes, I sing, play games to identify colours and help her start writing. Despite the restrictions on movements, I now have more time to play with my children, as well as making home-made toys for play, like a rattle made of a cut maize cob and a string.’’ Every little game makes the #EarlyMomentsMatter.⠀
