The UK live music industry added £4.1bn to the UK economy in 2019 but is not being protected or supported by the government after being severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Musicians, sound engineers, lighting engineers, tour managers, cleaners, security, bar staff and venues are at risk. Today we’re asking the culture secretary Oliver Dowden for support to protect the jobs of thousands of people working in live music, protect our favourite and much needed independent venues from closing and to make sure there is a live music scene for us to return to once this pandemic is over, whenever that may be.
