Work by Urs Fischer is on view in the exhibition, “Crushed, Cast, Constructed: Sculpture by John Chamberlain, Urs Fischer, and Charles Ray,” now open at Gagosian, Grosvenor Hill, London.

Fischer's aluminium sculptures began life as small mounds of clay—pressed, kneaded, and squeezed instinctively in the palm of the artist’s hand. The resulting, tumultuous shapes were then scanned into a computer, before being fabricated as vast models over three meters high. Taking molds from these immense shapes, the sculptures were finally cast into aluminum—the now gigantic prints of Fischer’s fingers and palms engrained on their surface as deep ridges. Somewhere between forming and disintegrating, each of Fischer’s sculptures are filled with a sense of movement, seemingly in flux as they swell and recede. Follow the link in our bio to read more.
