The weird and wild world of insects, Utah edition. Here’s a collection of neat insect moments I happened upon during my recent shooting in Utah’s “Mighty 5” for @visitutah. I’m having trouble identifying some of these insects, so any and all input is welcome and encouraged!

- A blue orchard mason bee (or maybe a leaf cutter bee?) chews on a leaf in Bryce Canyon National Park. This is one of the neatest insect things I’ve ever witnessed.

- A bee emerges from a beautiful pink cactus flower in Zion National Park. Every flower of this type that I saw had at least one bee buried deep within its pollen-covered stamen.

- A white tailed robber fly feasts on a smaller fly (zoom in to find the prey!). I actually didn’t realize that I caught this guy eating his breakfast until I was editing photos to create this focus-stacked final image. Insane!

- A smaller ant carries the head of a larger ant (maybe both harvester ants?) in Arches National Park. I’d love to get better photos of ants some day, but they are SO fast!

- A thin-legged wolf spider carries away an ant in Zion National Park. Sorry to my friends who hate spiders, I’d suggest you give them a chance? For some reason I lose all fear of these neat little guys as soon as I’m looking at them through the camera.
