Nobody knows this fact, because I don’t ever tell anyone. It was not a good life experience for me and I choose to not speak about it or give it any power. No one knows that at this particular university, we had marches and protest against racism my freshman year. We had dead black bodies found, in the places we were told to look. Someone obtained the Black Caucus list serve and started sending hate mail and death threats to black students and athletes. In some instances a noose was left outside a Black student’s dorm room. We slept in the student hub for a week, afraid to go back to our dorms and be alone. The Nation of Islam came, and stood watch outside the student hub, to stand for and protect ALL students. No one knows any of this because that particular university hid these events and covered them up- as they did with many horrible things that happened there. One outlet, BET reported about it at the time, but still no one knows. At that time there were only 3% black students out of 40,000. I was the ONLY Black person in my class. And there were only 2 of us in our degree program- until my friend left early - and then there was again, ONLY me. No other minorities at all. When I graduated I was the FIRST Black woman to do so with that degree at that university, and the second Black person with that degree. Ever. I am also the FIRST generation in my family to attend a university and obtain a degree. This university has a pageant, that is a qualifying pageant for the state, leading to Miss America (or Miss USA, I cant remember).. I won said pageant and was the FIRST Black woman to ever do so. I may still be the only one to have won. I left that place and hit the ground running (away) to nyc, where I then became the ONLY black woman/person and many shows. Because that was the typical unspoken protocol for a broadway show. I am now on a hit television show, where I am again, the ONLY Black person on and off screen. I’m not sharing this for any praise. But to give you a little perspective… **Continued in Comments**」7月7日 4時55分 - meganhilty
