Buy or Bail Friday: The Master Grand Taille by JLC 2002 and 2012 – The case of the original Grand Taille was 38mm and only “grand” because it was 2mm larger than the original 36mm Master. The 2012 Master Grand Taille is back to 39mm after a larger excurse over the past years but still with a disproportionally broader bezel. We feel that the dial’s sunburst finish is incomparably less detailed but in our opinion the worst evolution over the past ten years are the hands on the Master series. What used to be one of the finest crafted Dauphin hands in the industry with a sharp middle pleat, highly polished surfaces and luminous inlays look now like machine stamped flat pieces of sheet metal with one half chemically etched to mimic the Dauphin effect of better reflection and legibility.
