I made this image of @anddamm at noon on a sunny day, but used high-speed sync and a couple other tricks to make it look much later. With my Speedlite 600EX RT in a small softbox just out of frame on the right side, HSS allowed me to raise the shutter speed on my EOS R to 1/8000 second, which darkens the background considerably. I also set my camera’s white balance to tungsten, making everything more blue and simulating the cool color hue at twilight. I added a full CTO warming gel on my Speedlite, which compensates for the blue color on Andreas, so the light that’s hitting him appears to be neutral. To complete the effect, I added a bare Speedlite on the left to create separation on the other side of his face, and the flare feels like it might be from the moon or a streetlight."
