This week, @mvmnt4blklives announced the BREATHE Act—a bill that divests taxpayer dollars from brutal and discriminatory policing, and invests in a new vision of public safety. This vision answers the call to defund the police and allows all communities to finally BREATHE free. Check breatheact.org for more information.
We sat down with Karissa Lewis, the National Field Director at the Movement for Black Lives, created in 2014 as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions or wins and develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary in order to achieve key policy. It also seeks to convene organizational leadership in order to debate and co-create a shared movement-wide strategy.

As part of our commitment to this moment in the Black Lives Matter movement, Lush is partnering with a total of 12 organizations at the center of the movement to support and uplift the immediate responses for activists, messaging and direct action. We’re also supporting organizations working in the medium- and long-term to end police brutality and systemic racism.
These organizations build community alternatives to end harm and violence, empower Black people to exercise the right to vote, protect and defend the health and human rights of Black trans people and ensure that Black-youth activists and organizers have a voice.
