The illusion of an evening shower just passed. Rain is a given at the Gion Festival, therefore Yoiyama (festival eve) tend to take place in evening showers. The reflection of lanterns in puddles helps create the festival’s elegant quality.

*This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Gion Festival was limited to only a portion of the Shinto rituals, and events such as the Yama Hoko procession were cancelled.
