I knew he was funny but I had no clue how sensitive and vulnerable he could be in a performance. @juliettebinoche as Marie.. every morning our director insisted we do yoga together and sing “I’ve Got You Babe” more than the film itself JB and I would email from time to time after my dad died. She could not have been more gracious with her time & advice. Diane Wiest - mom - utter perfection. I’m a better actor because of my scenes with her. Lots of laughs on set together. Cherished moments. Mr. John Mahoney - dad - ...thespian.. kind.. I felt in scenes his quiet performance in some moments registered in such a major way. The man was incredible on and off screen. @norbert_leo_butz - my fab bro Clay - his gift of improv lifted several scenes.. our piano moment was pure improv and it ended up being one of the most precious scenes. In a later pic he’s hugging John Goodbye on our last day of shooting. I didn’t know I caught that until now. Wow. Frank Wood as Howard.. as a fake family we had to learn quickly how to have a history. I recall one of the early moments of rehearsal and Frank looked at my like I was from another planet. It was perfect. That oldest bro youngest bro disconnect. It’s these connections in the film that make it breathe. Amy Ryan - sister Eileen - those dinner scenes are amongst my favs. When I was off camera I loved watching how Amy would react to the world happening around her. So many gifted people I was fortunate to work with. Lastly Peter Hedges.. our director.
