To me inequality, means to engage in a blind support and celebration of the patriarchy. When I consider the majority of the world’s problems that we have faced historically and continue to grapple with today, they are all related to the patriarchy. This is especially true when the power positions are all occupied by men, particularly white straight males, or privileged males. The only way forward is DISMANTLING PATRIARCHY and celebrating MATRIARCHY. To me this means that the matriarchy, is taken in the literal sense where women, especially women of colour and trans women, are in positions of power and wield decision making control. Matriarchy, also means a celebration of feminine energy that this universe desperately needs. For centuries patriarchal energy’s negative side, which I associate with greed, delusional ambition, hunger for power and apathy have ruled our world. Now, in this particular time in history as we confront the crisis of COVID -19, extremely pertinent issues like black lives matter and income inequalities on so many levels, we must answer the wake up call for us to embrace what I characterize as matriarchal energy: nurturing, empathy, compassion, intentional leadership, sustainability, inventions, and spirituality. This energy is more healing, inclusive, and celebratory of differences. The world desperately needs this now. If we can’t really have this important conversation about dismantling the patriarchy and replacing it with the healing energy of matriarchy, then we are missing a very important point, and a key ingredient towards achieving a truly inclusive society. #togetherbands come in pairs to spread awareness about the Global Goals so I’m sharing mine with all of you. They are made by women who have been rescued from trafficking in my home country Nepal, so as you can imagine this is close to my heart.
