She is a hero. #Repost @lek_chailert Today we took some elephants out from the chain after they had been chained since February. We allowed them to free roam. Look how the two ladies, Mae Boon and Lo Poh, react to their first freedom. Every day we will bring more elephants out from the chain, taking them to adjust to a life of more freedom. That is a step before we start the new ethical Elephant project in this place. Many of you will know already that the Chok Chai camp is one of the biggest elephant riding and circus camps in the Chaing Mai area, and they have run their business here for decades. Chok Chai camp is not far from ENP. Every day we drive past this camp, and see their elephant riding program and show. It is very popular, so that it is quite a challenge to talk to the owner to make a decision in favor of change to a better way. I would like to thank Uncle Eddie, Mr ChokChai Sivilai , to open his heart and to think of the elephant's well-being . Many animal advocates will recall the Chok Chai camp full of negative images , but I would like all of us to open our hearts to embrace those who are willing to change for the animal's sake, to be a good example for others, when many camps yet oppose change and cling to their traditional way. I hope all of you will stand up to support the camps who are willing to care and focus on Elephant welfare. To critique and foster is a gentle balance. I hope that we can be wise. If we are to join our hands to help, and for the elephant's sake, surely we can support all of the elephants at the Chok Chai camp to be free from their chains.
