A cognitive reframe is the concept of identifying and then changing the way situations, experiences, events, ideas and/or emotions are viewed. It’s not misinterpreting or changing the facts, but rather how you perceive them. For folks with trauma, especially complex trauma history, it can be easy for us to use self-blaming language (often in the voice of our abusers or toxic folks we know if we listen hard enough). ✨ Note that this is not saying to not take accountability for things you may have done that have caused or continue to cause harm (and I’m wary of how abusers may coopt such things). This isn’t suggesting that one is perfectly blameless and has never transgressed. This is saying, how does it serve you to continue to beat yourself up for those things? How does it help you heal to constantly make yourself the villain? If you continue to see yourself that way, what will you do to change? *How* can you change? Is it possible to hold space for both/and? ✨ Internal family systems or parts work asks you to take a look at those parts of you who served functions to help you survive. They are still in there. Your inner child. The person who did things to make sure they wouldn’t be hurt anymore. Talk to them. Thank them for what they’ve done to help you so far. Let them know it’s OK and you’re going to take over now. You are learning all the time how to show up as the best version of your Self. All of you is worthy. Do not live in shame and guilt. Step into your light, release, and forgive yourself. ✨ #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #minoritymentalhealth #therapy #blacktherapist #therapyforblackgirls #selfcompassion #selflove #empathy #empowerment #healing #trauma #traumarecovery #resilience #community #lgbt #qtpoc #bipoc #youareenough #youareloved」7月22日 5時22分 - menasuvari
