Today reveals why Spidey from my last post was getting such stange texts from Mary Jane. Did you know that at one point in the Spider-man comics, MJ and Venom ended up merging? Check out her original comic look- it’s so menacing! Whenever I can, I like putting my own spin on something, so I reimagined a millennial generation Mary Jane whose symbiote was more fashion-forward and chic. Do you have a favorite version of Venom? ⁠⠀ .⁠⠀ Art Tip: When you have a lot of objects or elements overlapping each other and you want to reinforce visual hierarchy, remember that using thicker lines will always stand out more against thin lines. This also goes for creating the illusion of spatial depth in a drawing: thicker lines that describe the edge of an object will always be interpreted as being closer to the viewer than the thinner lines of the same object or nearby object. I applied that principle into this drawing and thickened Mary Jane and Venom’s silhouettes using the Stardust Gelly Roll pens to bring them forward on the page.
